Building a website only to have no-one visit it can be frustrating. Here are just a few reasons as to why you may not be getting any visitors (and what you can do about it).

Poor design

A poorly designed website will put off visitors and stop them from returning. Make sure that there are no clashing colors or odd fonts that could make your website look ugly. You should also make sure that the navigation is easy to work out (avoid overcomplicated checkout processes and try not to hide important information like contact details). On top of this, you should make sure that your website is mobile-friendly so that mobile users can still access your site. The best way to work out if your site is poorly designed is to hire a professional web designer to look at it. They will be able to suggest any changes that they think could be scaring visitors away.

Bad content

The content of your website also matters. If you’re too niche or too general, you could find that you struggle to hook visitors. You should also make sure that any written content is easy to read. Avoid overly technical language and try to break up large walls of text so that they’re easier to digest. Above all, try to make content unique and interesting.

Slow loading times

A slow loading website could test your visitors patience and ultimately cause them to leave before your content has even loaded. There are a number of ways in which you can increase the load speed of your site. One way could be to remove any high-quality images and replace them with lower resolution images. Similarly, avoid enabling too many pop-ups and make sure that videos don’t autoplay. Migrating to a new host is another way to improve your site’s loading speed.

Low search engine rankings

Search engines are a major source of traffic for most websites. If you don’t rank highly, you may find that visitors struggle to find your website in the first place. You can improve your rankings by trying a practice known as SEO (search engine optimization). SEO involves using a variety of strategies including use of keywords and links. Hiring an SEO expert is often the best option. This is because it can take a lot of time and practice to perfect SEO on your own.

No social media integration

Social media can be another major source of traffic for many websites. If you haven’t got social media pages for your business, it could be time to set up some pages. You can then share new content from your site to your social media pages to encourage your followers to visit your site. It’s also possible to use paid social media advertising to further boost traffic.
