Working from home has its pros and cons. On the one hand, it enables you to enjoy a better work life balance, eliminating the time spent commuting and sitting through meetings while giving you more time to spend with loved ones and on self care. You’ll save money, and be able to work according to your own schedule.

There are of course negatives. You don’t benefit as much from the social element of working in a thriving workplace, and are not as integrated into the company culture.

For some people, the positives outweigh the negatives, and others will prefer a more traditional office environment. Everyone is different. But what many people agree on is that it is sometimes harder to remain productive when working from home. There are so many distractions and less accountability when it comes to working hard. So how can you enjoy the benefits of remote working while ensuring you produce the best results?

Here are some tips to help you stay productive when working from home.

Stick to a routine

One of the great things about working from home is that you don’t have to follow a rigorous nine-to-five schedule. But you still need some structure in order to be productive. Without it, you risk losing focus on struggling to get into the business mindset. Set yourself a fixed time to start and finish work each day. Of course you can be flexible if the circumstances demand it, but having a routine will help you get the most out of your day.

Be comfortable

Your home office needs to set you up for success. If it is comfortable and well-organized, you are far more likely to produce the best results. The first step is to invest in an ergonomic desk chair that feels good to sit in and protects your posture. Surround yourself with all the stationary and storage you require, as well as some personal items like artwork and photos to make you feel relaxed. Make sure the room is heated or cooled to a suitable temperature so you spend the day in comfort. Consider hiring an HVAC company to maintain your heating and air conditioning system to ensure it is working efficiently.

Eliminate distractions

It’s easy to become distracted when working away from the office. There’s the irresistible pull of the fridge, the television, and potentially lots of noisy children running around. Try to eliminate these time wasters from your day so that you can knuckle down and get on with some work. Try to shut yourself away and only take a few scheduled breaks throughout the day. Tell your family members not to disturb you while you are working and make a point of not checking your phone unless absolutely necessary.

By following these tips you can ensure you maximize your productivity when working from home. You will get more done each day, and be happier and more fulfilled in your work. What other productivity tips can you think of? Share your ideas in the comments!
