If you have a natural affinity and flair for looking after children and you enjoy working with them then why not think about starting your own daycare business. There are many different types of childcare settings and you need to decide which one works best for you. If you want to work within your own home then starting your own daycare business might be the way to go, here’s how you can set one up.

Starting A Childcare Business

Check Out Local Laws

The very first step before you decide whether this is a viable option for you is to contact your local daycare licensing agency. They will talk you through everything that is needed to start a daycare business. It is down to you to decide whether this is something that you can afford to do. You might live in a state where you don’t need a license to look after children, but you will always need to register your services.

What Already Exists

Now you need to compile a list of businesses that already exist that offer the same services as you. The last thing you want is to start a business and not drum up any interest as there simply isn’t anyone who needs it. Looking into your competition and future colleagues will indicate whether more daycare services are needed in the area. When you are looking at the information available you need to note down how many children they care for, the ages of the children in their care, what hours they work, where they are located, and how much they charge per child/per hour. All of this will help you work stuff out later down the line. If possible, try and fill any gaps that are in current services, for example, if nobody works between 12 pm and 3 pm or 5 pm to 10 pm then this could be an option if you are available.

Name & Business Plan

Once you know what is required you will be able to draw up a business plan. This will include everything that needs to be done before you open and where you see your business going. It is always a nice idea to set yourself some SMART goals in your business plan so you have something to aim for. Within this business plan, you will need to include the name of your daycare business. This needs to be something memorable as this is the brand you want everyone to know about. Once you have your goals and your name, it is time to think of a suitable timetable for your daycare business. This should include any activities you will attend, nap times, and mealtimes.

Budget & Costs

Finally, once you have everything sorted you will need to have a budget in mind for everything you will need. This includes everything from storage folders for secure information to children’s tables and chairs. If you are looking for reputable companies to supply your furniture then take a look at educational furniture by Civic Australia.

You will also need to work out how much you are going to charge for your services, you don’t want to charge too much but you also don’t want to undercut yourself. You need to be able to make a living from it. Once you have done this you will be able to work towards opening your business.
