When you’ve worked in one place for a while, you can soon find you no longer enjoy it like you once did. In fact, it can be hard to think back and remember the time when you didn’t dread getting up on a Monday and coming into work. If you’re in this mindset, it’s important to cast your mind back to how excited you were when you first got the job and all the things you loved about it. You can also implement other tactics that can help you enjoy your work again. In this article, we explore some of the things you can do that should get you inspired.

Change what you can control

While this doesn’t mean you have to plaster a smile on your face and pretend to be enjoying yourself, what it does mean is look around you at what is making you unhappy at work and try to fix it. If the place being unorganised or a mess bothers you, set to sorting out things like deep-cleaning the vaccine fridges or work areas, ensuring it’s easier to use and adheres to protocol. By getting to the root cause of the issue, it can help you get things back on track in no time.

Connect with your colleagues

Often, it’s a disconnect with our colleagues that can cause discontentment at work. While you might have got on with your colleagues in the past, perhaps many of them have moved onto pastures new, leaving you with a team you don’t feel very close to. To try and fix this, see if you can have a team building day, or just socialise with them more in the office. It’s a good idea to speak to your boss and see if there’s anything they can sort out to add in some comradeship to the team and help you all work more cohesively together.

Take some time off

If you’ve tried a lot of things but they’re not working, have you considered you might be a bit burnt out? Burnout happens to the best of us, but doesn’t need to last. Instead, book some much needed time off work where you can just relax, switch off and clear your mind. You can find that when you go back to work after this, you see everything in a whole new light. You’ll feel happy, recharged and ready to face the week.

These are just a few things you can do that can help you to recapture the magic of your job. All too often we can think we need to leave and find a new company, but the problem is deeper than that and is something you can fix yourself. Obviously sometimes this might not be the case, but it’s always important to look and see if you can sort it out before all the upheaval of finding a new job.
