We live in a world in which the majority of people don’t feel “engaged” in the work that they do. While employees might seem cheery on the surface, the truth is that the vast majority have no desire whatsoever to go into work in the mornings and do the jobs that they do.

As an entrepreneur, you need to be aware of this. You can’t take employee engagement for granted – you may not always have it.

Take a look at some of the statistics presented in the following infographic. They show that around 17 percent of all workers are currently actively disengaged and looking for new opportunities. Only 32 percent of employees said that they felt engaged by what they were doing, meaning that there is massive untapped potential on the table. Imagine how much more productive and profitable your firm would be if everyone had the same enthusiasm as you do.

Fortunately, businesses can do a lot to turn the situation around. One of the main reasons people are so disengaged in their work is the fact that it adds a significant amount of stress in their lives. Providing flexible working hours, therefore, can go some way to reducing the problem. Likewise, many workers feel overwhelmed by their work. Managers, therefore, need to step up and offer support where needed.

Do you suspect that employee engagement is low in your enterprise? If so, check out the following infographic giving stats on the extent of the problem and what you can do to help.
