Being able to drive is one of the biggest privileges in life. Not many people take the plunge and learn to drive early, but those who do have the chance to build years of experience. Unfortunately, this doesn’t always translate to a good driver!
No one likes to be called a jerk, but if you’re under a license suspended for 1 year because of a DUI or something similar, then there is a chance that yes, you do drive pretty badly! It’s important that you recognize when you are acting unsafely on the road so that you can stop that dangerous behavior and learn to drive like the considerate human you know you can be! So, let’s take a closer look at the ways you are unsafe and you can learn how to do better next time.
You’re Scared
Often, terrible drivers are such because they are afraid of being on the road. Narrow streets, high points on the sides of hills and mountains, a lack of visibility in bad weather – these can all lead to fearful driving. To be honest, if you’re afraid of the things on the road, you shouldn’t be driving at all.
You’re Driving Too Slowly
Believe it or not, it’s not just speeding that can label you a bad driver. Driving too slowly in the fast lane, or too slowly in the speed limit lane can lead to a ticket! You need to make sure that you’re driving in the right lane and at the right speed to be known as a good driver.
You Don’t Like The Speed Limit
Yep, you’re a terrible driver if you disregard the speed limit and bomb down the road with no regard for other people on the road. Go slower. Drive the appropriate speed limit and stay safe on the road. Don’t forget, you’re also keeping other people safe when you’re on the road, too. Your car may punch to 120mph but that doesn’t mean that you should!
Tailgating Raises Your Rage Levels
When you are on the road, you must remain in control of your emotions. Road rage can cause you to veer off course and into other people and sides of the road. Tailgating sucks, but if you’re about to get distracted enough to rage, you’re going to need to learn to deal with tailgaters in another way. Pull over to the side of the road and don’t purposely slow down. Retaliation with your driving technique makes you a bad driver!
You Think It’s Okay To Drink & Drive
It’s not. In no uncertain terms should you ever believe that driving with alcohol in your system is a good idea. It’s not “just one”. That’s like hitting a person and it being okay because it’s “just one”. It’s never okay to be behind the wheel with substances that impair your concentration.
Don’t be that jerk on the road that people will despise. Don’t compromise your license and your future because you are in a rush.
